	Taz - you are indeed correct I was a little sideways when I posted this last night after midnight UAE time ! What I meant was that $40+ a barrel will put afren in to profit rather than considerable profits. I still dont see oil heading back towards this level over the next 12-24 months when Afren is planning to ramp up production to 70-100k bpd. Would you hazzard sharing with us a 12 month target price estimate given ebok goes according to plan next year? 	My point WAS one which had to be partially about the person. How can i possibly argue my point without making it about you when you make such contradictory posts. All you then state is its against you because you have a contrarian view. I have no problem with this BUT you should back up your position. Pretty much painting the worst doomsday scenario over the last few weeks and then stating you are short on the ftse for just 100 points makes no sense. If you really believed what you had posted then shouldnt you be looking for around a 1000 point retrace? Now i asked a question, how about you quit trying to avoid questions which clearly point out inconsistencies in what you post. Now do you believe what you have posted over the last few weeks or not? 	Taffy, if you arent shorting afren as you claim then why spout everything that you have if you dont believe it. If you truly believed that commodities and oil would fall dramatically then you would clearly want and expect far more than 100 points on that trade. 	They will be making a loss at $40..... as break even in pices for offshore west africa are closer to $50.... rig rates for deep offshore can reach $0.5 million per day and hence its an expensive region. 	Well for a start I'd challenge the idea that AFR makes 'considerable profits at $40+ a barrel' you're confusing breaking even with making profits. 	Averageup - the problem is taffy is not specifically talking about afren oil. I like you, think there may be a correction but only because the markets are slightly ahead of the current economic fundamentals. And when I speak of a correction I am talking about 5-10% maximum in the greater markets. Taffy is not in line with Afren oil the company and that is my major problem. Afren can make considerable profits at $40+ a barrel so at the current $65-80 per barrel range we are so well placed if we increase our production rate. I like to be conservative in my forecasts and have been playing this game for a while but if ebok comes in to play and we are producing 50K plus by year end 2010 then i can not see the share price being anything less than 2 pounds plus based on the above and challenge anyone to prove me wrong. 	Taffy, i think you may well be right re commodities it is after all the comforting scarce resource trade everyone is making when they can't see much value in other sectors and lets face it there isn't much value around. Only 10% of fund managers now see a double dip as a likely scenario which means the others are probably pinning their hopes on the commodities trade. These guys are meant to be seasoned pros. I don't buy it - the fundamentals for the US are terrible and don't think the emerging markets are strong enough to carry the can for a weak US/EU. When the commod graphs show 3x and 4x increases across the board and Harrods starts selling gold bullion to shoppers, commodities are clearly heading for a fall no question in my opinion. Oil will react badly when commodities sag. To be honest though i wouldn't be that worried with even a 40% fall from this point to $50 a barrel. Plus i doubt it will be that much as oil has not tracked other commods on the way up. Back to Afren, I think you are placing too much emphasis on 6x price increase. You have to admit there has been a very steady stream of good development news coming out of Afren since they hit the hard rock and had to abandon the Cuda well in late Dec 08 at which point in a confluence of events (hedge funds puking, banking system wobbling, no liquidity, unknown quantity, etc) we fell briefly to sub 20p. At $80 though, Afren is a bit of no brainer predicated on 60k boped which is now high probability and so my point is if you think oil's headed for $50 there are better oil stocks to short as the risk of you getting spanked is too high with Afren. 	No offence taffy, but that is a dumb trade, I seriously doubt you'll see any points let alone 100. Short at 5223, would have been good like 2 days ago but what we are seeing here just the natural progression of the markets. Everyone knows markets don't go up in straight lines, this is a typical pullback/ consolidation, the things which have pulled markets back over the last few days are shares going ex-divi. I just get the impression you jump on the short bandwagon when you see a bit of red. I wouldn't usually post like this but seeing as Taffy rubbishes the Afren board with his take on macro news, I'm going to rubbish his trades. 	As an oil/commodity short play probably a wise move as the 100 is heavily weighted to miners/oilers/banks. Taffy, not sure why the red tick earlier for my posting about being more transparent. Thought you may be better than that? Hey ho - whatever. I also have some FTSE shorts - but only as a small hedge against my "long" share portfolio. I'm surprised about your entry point of 5223 (March 2010) if you were so bearish why didn't you spread your shorts out from the 5360 area that the March contract reached only a day or so ago.
