" LONDON--Oil company BP PLC (BP.LN) said Friday that a significant gas condensate discovery was made in Deepwater KG D6 Block, offshore India, in which it has a 30% shake.
MAIN FACTS: -The KGD6-MJ1 well was drilled in a water depth of 1,024 meters - and to a total depth of 4,509 meters - to explore the prospectivity of a Mesozoic Synrift Clastic reservoir lying over 2,000 meters below the already producing reservoirs in the D1-D3 gas fields. -Formation evaluation indicates a gross gas and condensate column in the well of about 155 meters in the Mesozoic reservoirs. -In the drill stem test, the well flowed 30.6 million standard cubic feet per day and liquid rate of 2,121 barrels a day with a choke of 36/64" with a flowing bottom hole pressure of 8,461 psia suggesting good flow potential. -Well flow rates during such tests are limited by the rig and well test equipment configuration. -The discovery, named 'D-55', has been notified to the Government of India and the Management Committee of the block. -This discovery is expected to add to the hydrocarbon resources in the KG D6 block. Appraisal will now commence to better define the scale and quality of the field. -Reliance Industries Ltd is the operator of KG D6 with 60% equity; BP has a 30% share and NIKO the remaining 10%. -Shares at 1405 GMT, up 19 pence, or 2.2%, at 899 pence valuing the company at GBP438 million. -Write to Rory Gallivan at rory.gallivan@dowjones.com; Twitter: @RoryGallivan" |

Good solid points. And the reality on the ground is that this brand of homegrown terrorism is queuing recruits at an alarming rate.

You have studied Islam FML, I have just experienced it. All religions are fascinating, if you are that way inclined, and they are certainly powerful and very often corrupt. The Catholic Church, and the Protestant variety, has a lot of current and devious behaviour in the public domain. Most is hidden. The Islamic Faith is not alone.
Turkey has a workable Islamic democracy imo, how patronising is that, but has no truck with its neighbour. War could break out there if they are not careful. We need to hunt out militant Islam from our Universitys and in our Society. To do this we need the help of the Muslim community. Sadly I dont see this happening. They are frightened to come out, and HMG is frightened to come out. IMH patronising opinion. Trade this long or short with an interactive markets spread betting or CFD account. |

Indeed. Isaiah Berlin wrote about "Democraticization", which became the backbone of the neo-con mantra "force feed democracy to the despots". It should have read "our brand of democracy". It is a moot point as to how free we think we are in the West and not a little ironic that so many totalitarian regimes incorporate the word "Democratic Peoples bla bla" in their country's name.
The era of The Troubles in Northern Ireland were a pretty good demonstration of how effective the sectarian domains of hatred worked against each other. Soldiers got caught in the middle of the conflict and suffered (and on occasion meted out) terrible brutalities. Kevin Myer's book Watching the Door is a first class read on this chaotic theatre in the 70s. The rise of anti-western Islamic sentiment might be tracked back to the Mahdis of Sudan. But the modern radical process might be traceable to the likes of Sayyid Qutb, leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, who was jailed by Nasser. Qutb claimed the West was secularising and corrupting Islam and he advocated a resistance to this that some have said forms the basis of modern radicalism. Radicals and popular perceptions apart, Islam is rooted in spectacular art, science and discovery, much like the Catholic Church (minus the science bit). In its pure form unadulterated by modern hatred and terrorism the religion is fascinating. Modern mathematics (Simon Singh's The Big Bang) emanated from Baghdad and other middle eastern centres of learning; it's a pity we can't acknowledge these things. Anyhow, in modern times we have seen only blood and a vicious cycle of anger and hatred and the same lies ahead. |
