I notice that my Nasdaq shares all went up yesterday. The other shares were all over the place. However the VRS was up 5.4% yesterday.
OXB had a few RNS yesterday.

Pen - don't like that sort of trade too complex Sterling is volatile. The Brexit negotiations will be problematic late Jan. They don't want us to deregulate become more competitive. Reckon there will be no easy deal.
Sterling's Januarys rally against the Dollar and Euro followed another strong period of performance throughout December, which came in response to the European Council voting to allow Brussels negotiators to begin discussing the future relationship.
Phase two will see Prime Minister Theresa May attempt to negotiate the future trading relationship between the UK and the EU as well as a period of transition to the new model, with talks set to renew later in January.
There will always be swings and roundabouts . I am long term if dollar strengthens a lot at some point could sell some. If pound is strong can buy more. Timing buys and sells to get best position.
Why arent you hedging your US$ holdings?
You just need to go long with appropriate amounts of USD/GBP
The equity gains youve lost in sterling accounts would have been made up by your profits on the hedge.
Sterling is now back to $1.40. If The FTSE soared due to the Brexit devaluation, it should soon start reversing.
Your HL account shows the value in pounds sterling - is converted daily ref the current exchange rate. Ring them up to double check if you like.
I am a long term investor re most USA stocks therefore I am not concerned re short term currency fluctuations.
I was asking a different question so didnt get an answer from you.
Let me explain. I hold 22 American shares at a total cost of £54,000 GBP.
My real money HL portfolio shows Im making a profit of 2.1%. My iii virtual portfolio which is a replica of my real money portfolio shows Im up 9.2%.
HL only report £££ ie no $US dollars in sight. Hence, ( Im assuming this is correct,) they alter my gain/loss column according to forex on a daily basis.
In contrast, iii report data in $US dollars plus another column using £ GBP for info. Hence the gain/loss column relies on $US dollar data and wont change with £/$ exchange rate.
As I understand it, if I come to sell the whole lot tomorrow I will be doing so using £ GBP hence my gain will be 2.1%. The data from iii will therefore be just for academic interest ie I can boast in this bb that at constant currency Im up 9%.
Thanks, Ripley the statement re the DWP is absolutely true and beggars belief IMHO the figures could be slightly out but not far IMHO . im also going for British Gas Centrica They are and have been the worst company imaginable for losing letters and documents and then pretending they haven't received them. They should change their name as its never made clear which is the head office?registered Office also which is the commercial side and which is the domestic side. I am in the process of changing my supplier from BG for dual fuel and saving on my annual utility bills
could there be a possible revisiting of the merger or acquisition by William Hill, once its new Chairman is in place next month.
Mr Devlin will join WH as chairman designate on February 1, and take over from existing chairman Gareth Davis on April 2.
Another one of mine leb.
Not all winners took a very big hit on the one all over news last week.
That's what i get for asking smart broker for advise on re-balancing out of risky AIM own picks !!
( it was in 2015 maybe he changed mind before wipe out )
Eli Lilly's Chk1 inhibitor, prexasertib, shows clinical activity in ovarian cancer. Update from Sierra Oncology on SRA737, the Chk1 inhibitor originally developed by Sareum and the ICR, expected next month. $SAR.L #AIM #biotech @ICR_London @sierraoncology
Sareum Holdings plc added,
This suggests that there could be good news next month if all has gone well. Am waiting to add to this one
If all that is true about about helping poor folk with DWP Nige, i respect you for it.
Competition there was a recent one on another bb if your interested.
I think you were a KRS fan at one time that seems to be improving of late.
Congrats on your grandchild .
I sold this before the large rise at profit. The van delivery driver did say when I questioned him that they were developing robotic products that other businesses would buy. They sell more than just grocreies and are expanding their range is true.
Im watching closely. There is a potential here of short squeeze since more than 11% of the shares are loaned out to hedge funds shorting it. These guys will have to buy back and close their positions soon, allegedly.
Have a look folks.
Unless your assets eg Funds are hedged into GBP then you are correct in thinking that currency movements will affect the value of your assets.
Remember what happened post brexit, £ plummeted but everyones overseas funds went up in value, often significantly (some of the gain obviously to do with 'natural' market rise but large % due to currency movments).
Bearing this in mind, I am minded to repatriate my overseas funds into £ denominated funds given that the £ is now going up - pretty much across the board. Currently The Grinchs' portolfio's are roughly only 30% £ based, so I think is too low (doing very nicely thankyou). I will in the next few months morph another 20% back into GBP funds. Serious wonga involved here :0)
nowt to do with water suppliers leb. I'm talking about the Department of Work and Pensions UK. They have really overstepped the mark by robbing some of the most vulnerable people in the UK. Long story short, those who claim Universal credit, sickness benefit and such like were expected to phone an 0345 which until Dec last year was costing callers up to 47p a minute and typically a call could last 20 minutes or more.So one phone call could have cost £10. I've seen a statistic that states that as much as 18% of a claimants allowances were being spent on this number. Because I have a very strong ethics as to what is fair and what is daylight robbery I aim to get this money paid back to those in receipt of benefits. Watch this space I'm expecting a reply from the DWPs legal team in the next few days
SDX Energy Inc. (TSXV, AIM: SDX), the North Africa focused oil and gas company, is pleased to announce that a gas discovery has been made at its ONZ-7 development well on the Sebou permit in Morocco.
The ONZ-7 well was drilled to a total depth of 1,167 meters with 5 meters of net conventional natural gas pay in the Hoot formation. The well came in on prognosis but reservoir quality exceeded initial expectations, encountering porosity in the pay section of 35.3%.
The well will now be completed, tested and connected to existing infrastructure. SDX expects to provide a further update on testing results in early February.
Paul Welch, President and CEO of SDX, commented:
"We are very excited to be able to announce another discovery, the fourth from five wells drilled to date in our nine well Moroccan campaign.
For this well we used our own high resolution 3D seismic data, as we have for the other successful wells and as we will for the remainder of the campaign.
We look forward to updating all our stakeholders on the progress of our KSS-2 prospect, the next well to be drilled."
SDX is an international oil and gas exploration, production and development company, headquartered in London, England, UK, with a principal focus on North Africa. In Egypt, SDX has a working interest in two producing assets (50% North West Gemsa & 50% Meseda) located onshore in the Eastern Desert, adjacent to the Gulf of Suez. In Morocco, SDX has a 75% working interest in the Sebou concession situated in the Rharb Basin. These producing assets are characterised by exceptionally low operating costs making them particularly resilient in a low oil price environment. SDX's portfolio also includes high impact exploration opportunities in both Egypt and Morocco.

the Pound-Dollar exchange rate, the obvious target is the 1.40 level - a big round number that many in the market identify as the most obvious short-term target where they expect heavy selling pressure to emerge as traders book profit.
"Price action suggests that the rally looks a bit tired and we think it may be prudent for short-term players to pare back some risk as cable runs into thick resistance into the 1.38/1.40 area. The 1.3660/1.3720 looks to be credible support for now,"
Hi Marks good to see you are still on the ball. Yes I'm still collecting and play guitars mandolins whistles and melodeons, Yes difficult to assess the gains I think KEFI must have been consolidated not sure but yes PURP is showing 225% gain since Q3 2016. I have been busy taking legal action against British Gas/ Centrica and also the DWP . You may see something in the press soon to do with the DWP they have really cocked up and should have to repay circa £63 million back to DWP claimants.Got my solicitor working on it. My MP is also involved
I have been buying a lot of shares recently ie in the past 6-8 months. All based on Stan 2.
My calculations were that Ill get 2 winners in 10; they continue rising and I double, treble or quadriple my holding very quickly.
Two shares will stop rising and start a decline quite quickly losing me money. I sell these immediately losing no more than £100 per loser including costs.
The remaining six shares will stop rising and trade sideways ie not doing much ie no loss no gain. I hold on to these stallers for three months or untill their next trading update and see if this is good and pushes the shares up or not. I then decide what to do. This last category I had LGT and S32 produce trading updates last week which failed to push the sp up so I sold them promptly with minimal losses.
This strategy of mine has been working very well ie the winners have compensated for the losers by a very big margin. Im really pleased with myself.
Let us say there are 10 shares that you have. Maybe 4 are losers, 3 are holding there own, but 3 more are winners. If the winners go up fast you turn out to be a winner with your shares.. So it all depends how you treat all 10 shares. Get rid of losers fast IMO.
Above the 50 day MA back to the price Directors bought March last year. Have a small tentative holding is one of my horse racing style stock picks along with HUM and GGP waiting to add not yet though. Good News is needed to get more money out of my pocket.
Am watching a number of stocks from 3 v good small cap fund managers, LTG was my first buy of !3 potential buys I chose with a view that they could have further to go. There are more still in my main watch list which might be moved up to my potential buy list.
I would rather use the expert view as a starting point then decide the ones I like. Hold the 3 funds concerned long term. Am trading some of their picks see my watch list earlier post.
