BAE Systems has resumed Eurofighter Typhoon deliveries to Saudi Arabia, despite the company having yet to conclude long running price negotiations with Riyadh for part of the 72-aircraft acquisition.
Discussions continue with the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia relating to the formalisation of price escalation on the Salam Typhoon programme. BAE says in an interim management statement issued on 8 May. However, it reveals "aircraft de-liveries on the programme re-commenced in April".

QUOTE: British arms producer BAE Systems has announced a £2.5 billion contract with Oman to sell 12 Typhoon fighter aircraft and eight Hawk trainer jets to the Persian Gulf country.


The firm said in a statement that it will begin to deliver the aircraft to Oman from 2017.

"BAE Systems welcomes the decision by the Sultanate of Oman to purchase 12 Typhoon and eight Hawk Advanced Jet Trainer aircraft," it said.

"As well as supplying aircraft, BAE Systems will provide in-service support to the Royal Air Force of Oman's operational tasks. Deliveries are expected to commence in 2017,” it added.

The deal follows BAE’s announcement back in December that it has failed to agree with Saudi Arabia on the final price of a contract to deliver the Persian Gulf state 72 Typhoons.

At the time, BAE said Saudi Arabia has so far received 24 aircraft from the group, but further deliveries will be delayed over pricing disagreements.

The deal with Oman can somehow compensate the loss due to the Saudi blow and the collapse of BAE’s planned merger with European arms producer EADS in 2012. "JPMorgan Cazenove has DOWNGRADED BAE Systems to UNDERWEIGHT from neutral and increases target to 365p from 360p.

Notes that in 2012 BAE cut its self-funded research & development by £72M year on year, the third consecutive R&D cut. The brokerage says this was not known at the results in February, when BAE beat JPMorgan's 2012 EBITA estimate by £59m. Secondly, says BAE's 2012 pension finance gain of £55m in 2012 becomes a charge of £115m under new IAS 19 rules. As a result, the broker cuts EPS by 6%, 10% and 11% for 2013, 2014 and 2015 respectively.
