Launched in 1995, Interactive Investor (II) is an award-winning, online investment service that provides retail investors with unbiased financial information together with the tools and trading environment they need to make confident and informed investment decisions.

As one of the UK's leading investment and trading websites, II has 7.4 million unique users pa who contribute to one of the most engaged and active investor communities in the country.

Whilst, as an execution-only broker, II does not offer advice, it does offer a comprehensive range of financial services. Customers can choose from investment options including Share and Fund dealing, SIPP, ISA and Junior ISA trading accounts, an extensive research range, investment filters and a selection of ready-made investment options.

Customers have access to their valuations and holdings at all times with the ability to trade on their desktops, on II's tablet and mobile apps, or over the phone. Over 40% of new customers are referred by friends and family, which is testament to II's competitive pricing, systems and service.

Interactive Investor is privately owned by Interactive Investor Limited and is not listed on any exchange.

The Group also owns Moneywise Publishing Limited, a company that publishes consumer finance titles Moneywise and Money Observer magazines and their websites:

Interactive Investor Limited and its group of companies are registered in England and Wales (registered number 4752535) and is governed by the Companies Act 2006. It is required to submit audited financial accounts each year by independent accountants.

Interactive Investor is based in two locations, with our UK contact centre and share dealing operations in Glasgow and the rest of the II team in London.

Richard Wilson - CEO, Interactive Investor

Chief Executive Officer – Richard Wilson

Richard has 25 years’ experience leading change and service delivery across investment banking, derivatives broking and retail banking in the USA, Europe, and Asia. He spent 13 years with Societe Generale CIB in various senior roles in Operations, Finance and Technology before spending 12 years with Newedge, one of the UK’s 30 high impact financial firms. More recently Richard was Chief Administrative Officer of the Co-operative Bank from May 2015 – May 2016, where he led banking operations and the operating model transformation. Richard became CEO of Interactive Investor (II) in March 2017 but has been on the Board of II since October 2015 as a non-executive director. Richard describes himself as a frustrated musician (piano), loves playing all sports and spent 10 years coaching children's basketball, rugby and football. He’s also done a few triathlons and the odd marathon in the past and continues to run at the weekends with his black Labrador.

Barry Bicknell – Chief Financial Officer

Barry has a strong financial and risk-management background having spent 6 years at HSBC Investment Bank as Head of equity derivative product control, and 5 years at Westlb Panmure as Director of Operational Risk. He also brings expertise in delivering controlled growth in online retail financial services after four years spent as Finance Director at CMC Markets during the company's global expansion where it rolled out operations into 15 countries. Barry has been CFO at Interactive Investor since 2011, initially overseeing the creation of its execution capability and then overseeing its transformation into one of the fastest growing retail brokers in the UK.

Alex Kovach – Chief Commercial Officer

Alex joined Interactive Investor in 2015 as Chief Commercial Officer from Camelot, the UK’s national lottery provider, where he had served as Managing Director of Camelot Global Services (CGS) since 2010. He has broad commercial and general management experience with a focus on digital, consumer and early stage business start-ups and corporate ventures. Previously, Alex was CEO for International Development at Ladbrokes PLC and has worked for Shell and PwC. He was educated at Durham University and has an MBA from the INSEAD business school. Alex is married to Nicole and they have three year old twins. He has a passion for aviation and has a private pilot’s licence. His wife is from South Africa and they love South African wine.

Gary Shaw - Chief Operations Officer

Gary joins as Director of Operations from RBS where, most recently, he was Head of Operations for the Group's mortgage business. He has extensive experience of leading operations and customer contact teams, having served over one million customers and a loan book in excess of £100 billion at RBS. Originally qualifying as an electrical and electronic engineer, Gary has over nine years' experience leading large-scale operations in the financial services sector, developing and implementing customer experience improvement schemes and automated customer processes. Gary is married to Michelle with a 15 year old son, Jonathan. Away from work, he enjoys relaxing by playing pool or snooker and says his goal for 2017 is to finally beat his son at go-kart racing.

John Tumilty - Chief Technical Officer

John has over 20 years IT experience in the financial sector. John worked for Goldman Sachs in Tokyo, New York and London, including as Head of Equity Technology, then for UBS as CIO of the Investment Bank. He has been involved and planned several IT Integrations during that time. More recently he has consulted for firms in relation to their IT re-structuring. At Interactive Investor, John is planning the integration of the two IT system suites, working closely with the IT and business areas.

Simon Hill

Simon held a number of senior leadership roles in his 20 years at TD Direct Investing prior to the firm's acquisition by Interactive Investor. These included leadership of IS and Change, Operations and Relationship Management. He started his career at TD in Finance, with responsibility for Treasury and Regulatory. Simon has deep operational experience gained from working in both B2B and B2C operating models and has undertaken roles leading product design. He also led both acquisitions and disposals for the TD business. Simon has been an active member of various UK industry bodies including the Wealth Management Association and the UK Markets and Advisory Committee at Euroclear. Outside work, Simon enjoys spending time with his son, partner and dogs. He is a keen golfer, walker and supporter of his local rugby club which his son now plays at.

John Shiels - Chief Risk Officer

Since qualifying as a chartered accountant, John has gained over 20 years’ experience in financial services in various companies including Clydesdale Bank, Virgin Money & RBS Group. For 12 of those years he has held senior roles within risk and compliance. John’s most recent role was a five year stint at Clydesdale Bank, where he had overall responsibility for the management of the bank's second line regulatory and conduct risk oversight and advice functions as well as managing the relationships with the bank's regulators including the FCA. John lives in West Lothian and is married with two teenage children. He enjoys travel, reading, music and cycling.

Hugo Van Vredenburch – Chairman

Hugo Van Vredenburch – Chairman

Hugo is the former CEO of TMF Group, a position he held since 2010, following the merger of TMF Group and Equity Trust, where he was CEO. TMF is a multinational professional services firm that provides accounting, tax, HR and payroll services to businesses operating on an international scale. It operates in 80 countries and has grown rapidly both organically and through acquisition. Prior to that, Hugo held a variety of positions at Goldman Sachs over a 13 year period, including heading up the Equities Division in Japan, as COO of the Global Equities Division and co-leading the Pan-European Equities Franchise. Hugo began his career in Japan, working as an analyst and subsequently as General Manager and CIO for Tokyo Pacific Holdings. Hugo is a Non-Executive Director of TMF Group and Tempus Energy. Originally from the Netherlands, Hugo is married with 5 daughters. He has been an investor in Interactive Investor in his personal capacity since 2012.

Tim Hanford

Tim is a managing director for J.C. Flowers in Europe and a member of the J.C. Flowers’ Management Committee. Prior to joining the firm in 2009, Mr. Hanford worked with J.C. Flowers & Co. as Co-Head of FPK Capital and, prior to that, as Head of Private Equity at Dresdner Bank and a member of the Institutional Restructuring Unit’s Executive Committee. Mr. Hanford’s other experience includes serving as a Board Director of Schroders, based in Hong Kong and Tokyo, where he was Head of Structured Finance. Mr. Hanford also serves on the Boards of Directors of Pension Corporation, OneSavings Bank Plc, Castle Trust, Cabot Credit Management and UK General Insurance Group Ltd. Mr. Hanford received a B.Sc. (Honors) in Chemical Engineering from the University of Birmingham and an M.S. in Management from Stanford University Graduate School of Business where he was a Sloan Fellow.

Tim Levene

Tim founded Augmentum Capital in 2009 with the backing of RIT Capital and Lord Rothschild, and focuses relentlessly on finding businesses that are disruptive technologically and reinvigorate markets that are lacking fresh innovation. Prior to that, Tim was the commercial director of Betfair where he led the internationalisation of the business and laid the foundations across Asia, Europe and the rest of the world. Over the years, Tim has advised and personally invested in a number of exciting and innovative businesses and was made a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2012. Tim also advises The Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry on digital strategy and innovation. Tim graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Russian. He has a young family and is a dedicated Chelsea F.C. season ticket holder. He remains a keen footballer, skier and golfer, although operating at a more sedate pace than in recent years.

John Baines

John has over 30 years of experience in the financial services industry, at both executive and board level, and brings with him a wealth of institutional, governance and regulatory knowledge. He currently sits on the boards of the State Bank of India (UK) and Distribution Finance Capital, and has been Non-Executive Director at Coutts & Co (UK), Coutts Bank Von Ernst (Switzerland), Adam and Company, and Non-Executive Chairman of RBS International (Jersey). John has a depth of executive experience, with prior roles including CFO of Coutts Group (2002-2006), CEO of RBS Wealth Management division (2006-2010), CFO of Aldermore Bank (2010-2013) and CFO of The Co-operative Bank (2013-2016). He is a qualified chartered accountant, and spent his early career in audit and accounting roles at Stoy Hayward, JP Morgan, UBS and RBS. John chairs Interactive Investor’s audit committee.

Jonathan Cox

Jonathan is a VP at J.C. Flowers & Co. Prior to joining the firm in 2012, Mr. Cox spent five years in investment banking, first in Rothschild’s London based Financial Institutions Group and then as a Vice President at Credit Suisse in London where he covered European insurance. Previously, Mr. Cox qualified as a Chartered Accountant while working in the Financial Sector Transaction Services team at KPMG in London, and he remains a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales. Mr. Cox also serves on the Board of Directors of Group Financière CEP, Acuon Capital Corporation and UK General Insurance Group Ltd. He received a B.Sc. in Government & Economics from the London School of Economics.


Gail Bragg

Gail is a Non-executive Director and chairs the Integration Committee and the Risk Committee. Most recently, Gail was Friends Life's Integration Director for the merger with Aviva. During her time with Friends Life, she held a range of operational and change roles, including negotiating and managing the IT and operations outsourcing deal with TCS. Prior to Friends Life, she worked at AXA and RBS, including directing integration/separation programmes. She has a very broad management background, including in Risk, IT and Supplier Management. Gail now works as a consultant. She is also Non-executive Director of South West Ambulance Service Trust, Director of a Multi academy Trust and Chair of Governors at a local primary school. Gail lives in Bristol with her husband Paul. Their five children are in their 20s.

Financial Services Compensation Scheme

Investors are likely to be covered by the provisions of the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS), if Interactive Investor ceases trading. It can award up to £50,000 in compensation to any one investor where they decide that an investment business is in default and is unable to satisfy any claims against it.

In addition, if one of the banks we use for depositing cash balances is declared in default, each individual is entitled to 100% of the first £75,000 in total in compensation for losses across all their deposits with each separately authorised institution. (Banks which are subsidiaries of a larger group may be covered by one single authorisation. Where this applies the limit applies to the total of all accounts across the authorised group).
